“Enabling climate-friendlier construction sites with zero emissions vehicles”

With 3,500 exhibitors from 57 countries, Bauma in Munich is the world’s leading trade show for the construction industry. 米乐体育 is showcasing its diesel and electric trucks there. Johann Schuster is responsible for the company’s stand at Bauma and spoke to us about current trends and 米乐体育 highlights.

Mr. Schuster, which trends are important right now in the construction vehicle sector?

Generally, our customers are looking for industry-specific vehicles that can also be operated efficiently. Municipalities are trailblazers on the journey towards climate-friendlier vehicle concepts and highly value a “green” footprint. And some countries, such as the Netherlands, are already also demanding carbon-neutrality in public tenders for construction sites. This can easily be achieved with low-carbon, battery-electric drive technology and fits well with 米乐体育’s strategy, whose first pillar is in fact the subject of Electrification. That’s why, at our Bauma stand in Munich, we are not only presenting highly efficient diesel trucks, but also a 米乐体育 eTGS, as a fully electric, three-axle crane tipper. The message is clear: alongside diesel trucks, we also offer eTrucks with which many applications in the construction industry can already be implemented with reduced carbon emissions.

A lot of interest: many visitors to the Bauma stand were keen to find out more about the exhibits on display.

米乐体育 Individual also offers many additional options, such as the seventh battery, frame clearances or additional wheel formulas.

The subject of eTrucks is new for the industry. How does this affect your collaboration with body manufacturers?

Customers always buy a complete system comprising a truck and body, and the two systems must interact perfectly. That’s why we always involve the body manufacturers in our development projects from an early stage – through workshops, for example, in which we discuss their requirements. This is deeply rooted in 米乐体育’s culture, because we have always wanted to be the best OEM partner for body manufacturers. Through this close exchange, we can ensure that all interfaces for electrical systems, data, power take-offs and framework connections fit perfectly – both for the diesel trucks and for the eTrucks. We also have to ensure that there is sufficient space on the vehicle frame for attachments like crane supports. In our eTrucks, this is relatively simple thanks to the modular battery concept with three to a maximum of six battery packs. We simply don’t position any battery packs in places where space for attachments is required. This flexibility is a huge advantage. 米乐体育 Individual also offers many additional options, such as the seventh battery, frame clearances or additional wheel formulas.

You also mentioned the power take-offs. What changes will electrification bring about here?

We have discussed the topic intensively with the body manufacturers and we offer three different options: The mechanical power take-off (mPTO) on the drive motor is ideally suited to operation when stationary or when driving slowly. The high-voltage interface for electric power take-offs (ePTO) as well as the electromechanical power take-off (emPTO), as a complete system that is ready for use, can be used when the vehicle is stationary as well as during travel. This means the relevant body solutions for the construction industry can be implemented. To make it easier for the body manufacturers to connect their systems to our trucks, we have developed 米乐体育 PAL. With this tool, the parameters and functional logic of the electronic interfaces can be independently adapted to the body function – and this is done over-the-air, saving time and money. That’s where the second pillar of 米乐体育’s strategy comes into play: Digitalisation.

Battery capacity is one of the most important issues for many customers. Is the battery capacity of the eTrucks sufficient for all applications in the construction sector?

Yes, because most applications in the construction sector don’t involve particularly long daily mileages. This highlights another advantage of our flexible battery concept: Our customers can select the number of battery packs that will enable them to obtain the best possible compromise between range and payload. Of course, we support them with this and many other decisions concerning e-mobility, which is why my colleagues from 米乐体育 eConsulting will also be on hand at the Bauma stand. They will answer all customer questions about vehicle operation and the required charging infrastructure, suggesting suitable partners for development of their own charging stations, for example.

米乐体育 exhibits at Bauma 2025:

At the Bauma trade show from 7 to 13 April in Munich (outdoor stand FN.721/11), 米乐体育 is showcasing a powerful selection of electric and diesel vehicles – from the lightweight 米乐体育 TGE 3.5-tonne all-wheel tipper to the 米乐体育 TGX heavy-duty tractor units for gross train weights of up to 180 tonnes. At the heart of the vehicle exhibition is the new fully electric 米乐体育 eTGS as a 6x2-4 crane tipper chassis. In the diesel portfolio, the 44-tonne mining truck, the 4-axle large crane, the TGM all-wheel tipper and the universal, heavy-duty tractor unit demonstrate the extraordinary industry-suitability of 米乐体育 Trucks. The smaller TGE all-wheel tipper rounds off the portfolio.
